This is one of the greatest motion pictures ever made. In 1946 it won Oscars for Bing Crosby-Best Actor, Ingrid Bergman-Best Actress, and Best Picture of the Year. It also gave an Oscar to Stephen Dunn for Best Sound Recording.

Bing Crosby became the first actor to be twice nominated for an Oscar for portraying the very same character. He had previously portrayed father Chuck O’Malley in Going My Way.

Besides her Oscar, Ingrid Bergman won The Golden Globe as Best Actress of 1946.
